The Princess Diaries 3: Anne Hathaway Shares Some Hints About the Movie
The Princess Diaries is one of the top favorite films among the viewers. Anne Hathaway played the character Mia Thermopolis in the film series, which was the breakthrough in her career. The two movies from this franchise became a commercial success.
It’s been over twenty years since the release of the first film, but still, it didn’t lose its charm. Fans have been waiting for the third part of the film. In a recent conversation with V Magazine, the actor Anne Hathaway gave hints about The Princess Diary 3.

She talked about the development of the potential third film. She said, “We’re in a good place”. However, she added that there was nothing to announce yet. In that conversation, she also praised The Princess Diaries’ director Garry Marshall by stating that he valued her take being a teenage girl and gave her a valued status on set that she didn’t get in other sets.
In November 2022, Disney confirmed The Princess Diaries 3 was in progress. Debra Martin and Aadrita Mukerji write the script for the upcoming movie. Debra Martin will also produce the film with Melisaa Stack as executive producer.
When it was announced, Anna Hathaway expressed her interest in working with Julie Andrews, her on-screen grandmother, who played the role of Queen Clarisse Renaldi in the two films. In conversation, Hathaway said that they could make it work if there was any way to get Julie Andrews.
In March, Julie Andrews said that she believed the plans for the third film could be dropped. She also added that she was still interested in returning to her role but didn’t make her expectations high.
The original movie Princess Diary was released in 2001 and follows the story of an ordinary teenage girl, Mia Thermopolis, whose life is changed when she learns that she is an heir of Genovia Kingdom. The film grossed $165 million in worldwide theater, gaining good reviews. Following the success, a sequel to the original movie was made in 2004, titled ‘The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement’.
Gary Marshall directs both movies. He was passionate about doing a third film. In an interview in March 2016, Marshall said that they wanted to do The Princess Diaries 3 in Manhattan. Unfortunately, his plan never came into reality, and he passed away in July 2016.
As per sources, the third movie will be the continuation of the first two films. Following the death of Marshall, Andrews stated that they might do the movie in honor of Marshall.
Anne Hathaway appeared in many films after her performance in The Princess Diaries. Her important films include The Devil Wears Prada, Rachel Getting Married, Brides Wars, Les Misérables, and The Dark Knight Rises.
