Moana 2: Disney Shares New Stills and Confirms the Return of Dwayne Johnson

Disney dropped a new image of the most awaited sequel of Moana. The film is ready to hit the theatre in November, which was revealed on February 7, through a surprise announcement. After the release of the teaser, the creators share the new still from the movie, which increases the excitement of fans.

Dwayne Johnson returns in Moana 2

Along with the new image, the return of Dwayne Johnson is confirmed through social media. Dwayne Johson voiced Maui in Moana, the legendary demi-god. The news was confirmed during the annual meeting of shareholders of the entertainment company 2024.

The entertainment company shared a picture on Twitter, which shows an older Moana, sailing with a confident face with her signature tapa top and skirt. She holding an oar that is engraved with a heart and Maui’s fish hook. Behind her back, we can see a giant monster with eyes and tentacles.

During the shareholders’ event, Disney CEO Bob Iger addressed that Moana is heading on another epic journey to reconnect the ocean people. He also confirms that Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson will be back to their respective roles.

Iger also added, the franchises of Moana still hold one of the most popular ones among the audience. Recently the original film which was released in 2016 crossed the watching hour 1 billion on Disney+ and it became the most streamed movie in 2023.

What to expect in Moana 2?

The expectation of Moana 2 is high, and the original cast and some crew members will be back in the prequel. According to the synopsis of Disney+, Moana is ready to expand her journey in search of people beyond the coast of  Motunui, three years after her first expedition. Along with Maui Moana must travel the far seas of Oceania and the dangers and adventure anything she faced. It seems like the movie will promise an interesting plot.

Moana 2 is directed and written by David G. Derrick Jr., who was a storyboard artist in the first Mona Film. The songs were written by Emily Bear, Abigail Barlow, Mark Mancina, and Opetaia Foa’i. The cast of the film is yet to be revealed by Disney.

The development of Moan 2 started in 2020, and initially, they planned to do it as a TV series for Disney+. However, they changed the idea, as the network announced the decision for a theatrical sequence in February 2024.

About Moana live-action Movie

A live-action movie of Moana is potentially in development and is expected to come out in 2025. Thomas Kail directs the film and Dwayne Johnson will be back to the role of Maui. Moana’s character will play another actress which is still unknown. Auliʻi Cravalho, who voiced the character Moana in the film, will join as an executive director in the live-action movie.
