Since Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks created the Japanese-American historical drama Shogun for FX on Hulu, fans have been excited about the show’s plot, cast, and theme. Now, Shogun Season 1 concludes with ten episodes on April 23, 2024, and many fans are eager to know the answer: will there be a Shogun Season 2?
The first installment earned a positive response from the audience and 9.0/10 ratings, which motivated the show’s cast and crew to start the journey with the second run. However, the first block of this historical drama show recently ended with a complete circle, and there is no chance that the fans will see Shogun Season 2 in the near future.
What is the Shogun Series All About?
Hiroyuki Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis lead Shogun, the complete historical drama series. It was developed by renowned American writer and producers Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo. Earlier, James Clavell wrote the show’s plot under the same title in his novel.
Here, the show’s plot follows the collision of two powerful men from different parts of the world. On the one hand, we were introduced to John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis), a risk-taking English navigator whose character is loosely based on William Adams, the first Englishman to visit the land of Japan.

Conversely, Shogun Season 1 includes Hiroyuki Sanada as the lead character, Lord Yoshi Toranga, who dominates the Kanto region. He belongs to the Minowara clan, which has ruled Japan as a Shogun.
Overall, the show’s storyline revolves around action, strength, political aspects, and John’s efforts to become a samurai under the founder of Shogun. Shogun Season 1 was first aired on February 27, 2024, and recently ended with the tenth episode, ‘Chapter Ten: A Dream of a Dream,’ on April 23, 2024.

The writer, James Clavell has also written several other books, but they revolve around different stories and timelines. Not only that, but the ‘Asian Saga’ integrates six books and Shogun is one of them. Undoubtedly, Shogun Season 1 has earned a good response from fans from all over the world and there is no surprise in the return of the further series.
However, the Shogun will not get a second run under the same title, but we can assume that the show will be released with an adaptation of books like Tai-Pan or another James Clavell’s collection.
