Detroit Lions Running Back David Montgomery Likely to be Out for a ‘Little Bit’ Due to Rib Injury

Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery faces a ‘little bit’ of time out with a rib cartilage injury that he took a hit during his team’s 20-6 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The win at the Raymond James Stadium leaves the Lions at a very impressive 5-1 record, which is in marked contrast to the way the team started 2022, where they were 1-5 at the same point in the season.

Lions fans are understandably ecstatic about the way the new season has panned out thus far, and if Detroit supporters want to back their team with a nice wager, then this FanDuel promo code for Michigan users will go down a treat. FanDuel is rightly considered one of the best sportsbooks in the US, and this handy bonus will come in handy for a bet to back the Ford Field franchise.

Post-game Dan Campbell discussed the injury suffered by 26-year-old Montgomery, who moved to Detroit from the Chicago Bears in March on an $18m three-year deal.

“He’s probably gonna be down for a little bit, here,” Campbell said. “I don’t know how long. At his position, that’s not an easy thing to deal with. We’ll just take it as it comes. I think there’s a chance we won’t have him for a little bit.”

It’s a blow for Montgomery, who has been in incredible form this season. He’s already racked up six touchdowns in the space of six games, and that already exceeds what he managed in his final season at Soldier Field.

Another player who is very much in form is Jared Goff, and when asked about whether he was surprised by the displays put in by the quarterback, Dan Campbell responded;

“No. No,”

“No, I’m not surprised. I knew he was tough, I knew he was resilient, and he’s grown. There’s been consistency in what we asked him to do; there’s been consistency in his play.”

On whether that form could culminate in an MVP award, Campbell added;

“I don’t know what MVP is or isn’t these days, but I know this, he’s playing at a very high level,”

On the subject of Goff’s contract, Campbell stated in a forthright fashion;

“I don’t want to get into contract talk, what we have (negotiated), what we haven’t. All I can tell you is he’s playing at a high level, and he needs to be with us.”

The Detroit Lions have stuttered in recent seasons and haven’t made it to the postseason since 2016, and the last time they made it past the Wild Card round was way back in 1991, so Dan Campbell has his work cut out for sure.

The progress made since he took over in 2021 is obvious. In his first season, the Lions went 3-13-1, and in 2022 that was improved to a 9-8, and their 5-1 start puts them in a great position to make it to the postseason once again.

The season started superbly with a win over reigning Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, on their own patch, and their NFL Game Week seven opponents, the Baltimore Ravens (4-2), are sure to be a challenge for Campbell and co.
