Peter Krause as Mike Hollingsworth
Krause plays the family patriarch, a veteran Secret Service agent on Presidential details. This marks a shift from his most recent role, an eight-season run as a fire captain on ABC’s 9-1-1, and returns him to federal law enforcement, which he previously explored on shows such as The Catch.

The series was created with direct input from TODAY co-anchor Jenna Bush Hager, who is an executive producer. Her idea grew partly from her real-life experiences growing up with a Secret Service detail. “I had Secret Service agents who would leave their family to protect mine,” Bush Hager said at an NBCUniversal event on August 10, 2026. And so the dynamics of that are very much a part of the DNA of what Josh has written, which I think is brilliant.

The actors also remarked on the on-screen tension between the leads. Hope Davis, on her character’s relationship with Krause’s Mike Hollingsworth, said: “We have some secrets from one another, and some things that we never could agree on. But have we finished with one another yet? I think not.”

Recently, Tommy O’Brien teased his character’s inner turmoil, telling us, “Micah lives in his dad’s shadow. That’s difficult to deal with.” He is very risky. He is unexpurgated, entirely.

Line of Fire attempts to find a niche in a crowded TV landscape by mixing the procedural case-of-the-week format with serialized family drama. The series tries to set itself apart from the usual police procedural by focusing on the unique interpersonal tensions of an entire family working in related federal agencies. Jenna Bush Hager’s involvement also adds a real-world uniqueness to the depiction of Secret Service family life.
