Eminem Celebrates the Milestone of 16 Years of Sobriety and Shows Off His New Chip

The Godzilla rapper, Eminem, marked 16 years of sobriety on Saturday, April 20. He shared a photo on Instagram of his hand holding an Alcoholics Anonymous coin, which includes a graphic of a tree along and inside the triangle the number 16 is craved. The three triangles represent the three pillars: unity, service, and recovery.

The sobriety coin is given to Alcoholics Anonymous or other twelve-step program members, which represents the amount of time the member remained sober.

He posted the photo without any caption. However, the post received enormous love and support from his friends and fans.

Eminem’s longtime manager and business partner, Paul Rosenberg, commented on the post, “Sweet 16. So proud of you”.

Eminem’s brother Nathan “Nate” Mathers wrote “Greatest Influence and Mentor” in the comment. His fellow rapper DTG commented on the post that it was a great decision he made and they all are proud of him. Musician Ekoh congratulated and thanked him for being an example under the post.

Eminem previously shared his experience and struggles with addiction after a drug overdose in 2007. He had a primary addiction to sleeping pills and Vicodin, and he revealed he took 20 pills a day at one point. 

In an interview in 2015, he said that he managed to get clean by replacing his addiction to exercise. He said that he started running, and it helped him increase hi natural endorphin and also helped to get a good sleep. He also revealed that he weighed over 230 pounds when he was addicted to Ambien, Vicodin, and Valium.

In 2022, in an interview, he confessed that his loved ones were worried that he might have permanent brain damage after the use of drugs. He also said that it took a long time for his brain to start working again and it was the time he started having fun with music again,

Eminem has been sober since 2008. After one year, he released the album Relapse and Recovery. It was his return to the music industry after four years. Recovery became the bestselling album of 2010 worldwide and Eminem’s second album after The Eminem Show in 2002. 

Eminem remained quiet regarding his recovery on social media. However, he shared a photo in 2019 on Instagram holding the Alcoholics Anonymous coin to celebrate the 11th anniversary of his sobriety. He gave the caption “11 years – still not afraid”

In 2020, he celebrated his 12 years of sobriety by posting a picture of his sobriety chip, which he captioned: “Clean dozen, in the book! I’m not afraid”.

Eminem has won numerous awards in his music career, including 15 Grammy Awards, a Primetime Emmy Award, and Academy Award. His best known songs include “My Name Is”, “Stan”, “Without Me”, and “The Monster”.
