Shakira Reveals She Still Believes in Love After the Split with Gerard Piqué

The pop singer Shakira shared whether she believed in love after her separation from Gerard Piqué in an interview with Marie Claire on April 25. She said she cannot say she doesn’t believe in love because she saw her parents after 50 years together. She also added that she witnessed love from them as they looked into each other. But she hadn’t been that lucky herself.

She said she had always considered having a partner the most important thing in life. She continued searching for a man like her father and made many sacrifices for that, but sometimes things did not happen as planned.

In that interview, she also shared that her relationship lasted 12 years, but her friends were there for a lifetime. She learned the importance of friendship when a problematic situation came.

Shakira admitted the challenges of being a single mother but acknowledged the bond she shared with her children. She said she wondered how they would survive, but they developed the strength to recover from the difficulty together.

Shakira and her boyfriend announced their separation in June 2022. At that time, they said that they regret to confirm their separation and requested the privacy of their children as it was their maximum priority.

The couple met on the set of “Waka Waka” in 2010. It was the official song of the FIFA World Cup 2010, which was held in South Africa. Several football players made an appearance in her video, including Piqué. In 2011, they confirmed their relationship in public through social media. They welcomed their two children together, Mian and Sasha.

Piqué retired from professional football in 2018; at that time, Shakira posted a tribute to him on Instagram to show her support for him. She posted a photo of him with the title “Love, finished the stage that we will always keep in our hearts” in Spanish.

After 11 years together, the couple announced their split in 2022. Right after their separation, the report came that Piqué was living separately from Shakira and their children. In an interview in September 2022, the singer shared about the end of relation for the first time. She called their separation period “the darkest hour of her life.”

She revealed in that interview that she remained quiet and tried to process all. It was hard to talk about it because she was still going through it. She also added that it was an equally challenging situation for their children. After their separation, Shakira and her two sons moved to Miami.

Shakira released her latest album, “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran”(women no longer cry), last month, her first studio album after seven years.
