Ryan Gosling Reveals Why He is Not Taking ‘Dark Roles’ Anymore

Ryan Gosling recently opened up about why he is avoiding dark roles for his projects in an interview with Street Journal. There, he cleared that he had made a decision not to choose dark roles for the sake of his family.

In that interview, he said that he would not take roles that put him in a dark place, and he wanted to do the best for his family. He also added that when he chose a new offer, he considered the opinion of his wife, Eva, and they together confirmed the decision by keeping their family in mind. 

During the conversation, Ryan admitted that his perspective on selecting the characters changed when he became a father. He also added that his children inspired him to play Ken in the film Barbie.

He said the change occurred when he acted in the film La La Land in 2016. It was a musical romantic drama in which Ryan’s acting garnered a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor.

Ryan Gosling met Eva Mendes in 2011 at the set of the film ‘The Place Beyond Pines’, where they played the roles of former lovers and co-parents. Since then, they have been in a relationship and have two daughters, Esmeralda Amada and Amada Lee. They have been keeping their private life out of the limelight.

The actor also revealed that he would additionally focus on taking roles that he passionately wants to do and not target one type of audience. His new action comedy film, The Fall Guy, hit the theatre on May 3. It is directed by David Leith and is based on the TV series released in 1981 of the same name created by Glen A. Larson. 

In that film, Goslin played the character of a Hollywood stuntman who agrees to work with his ex-girlfriend’s first directorial film, and lately, he is involved in a conspiracy involving the film’s lead actor.

Ryan Gosling started his acting career in 1993 when he appeared in The Mickey Mouse Club. His breakthrough film was The Believer, which was released in 2001. He got worldwide popularity by acting in the romantic movie The Notebook. The film Barbie became his highest-grossing release and got a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Ryan’s other important films include Half Nelson, Blade Runner, First Man, The Big Shot, and The Nice Guys. His upcoming film is Project Hail Mary, which is scheduled to release in 2025.
