Lioness Season 3 Finale Reveals Aaliyah as Mastermind in Taylor Sheridan Cliffhanger

Taylor Sheridan’s Lioness delivered a thrilling season 3 finale on Sunday night, revealing that arms dealer’s daughter Aaliyah (played by Alicia Sanz) pulled off the kidnapping of CIA operative Joe McNamara (played by Dave Annable) in an elaborate revenge plot against the entire Lioness program. The 70-minute episode, called “The Unraveling,” ended with a shocking twist that sets up a potential Season 4 showdown between the CIA team and the woman they thought was gone for good.

In the finale of Lioness Season 3, we learn that Aaliyah, the arms dealer’s daughter from Season 1, orchestrated Joe McNamara’s kidnapping to lure Cruz and the Lioness team to Qatar as revenge. Double agent Oleksandra was killed,d and the episode ended with Aaliyah vowing to try again, setting up a major cliffhanger for Season 4.

After eight episodes of speculation over who ordered Joe’s brazen kidnapping from her American home, the season finale delivered a devastating answer: Aaliyah Amrohi, the daughter of arms dealer Asmar Ali Amrohi whom Cruz seduced and betrayed in Season 1, has been pulling the strings all along.

The episode shows Aaliyah alive, wealthy, and working from a luxury apartment in Qatar, where she meets with operative Bahat. “It’s not how do we get to he; it’s how do we get her out,” Bahat explains about the failed kidnapping attempt. It would be easier if we took care of it there.

Aaliyah’s answer leaves no doubt as to what she wants to do: “We have to get her out. If we get her out, the rest of them will come to save her. And then we got ’em all.” As she gets out of the bathtub, the camera finally reveals Stephanie Nur’s character for the first time since Season 1, confirming the revenge plot that’s been building all season.

The final episode showed the disastrous consequences of the CIA investigation before the Aaliyah revelation. The team located Russian lobbyist Dimitri Sokolov in a crowded Washington, D.C. restaurant where he met with Renat, Joe’s Belarusian abductor.

Joe ordered the team to “Engage,” and a chaotic shootout erupted. Renat shot Sokolov, and then the CIA agents pumped him full of lead. Customers ran in fear as stray bullets killed a diplomat from Africa. Joe says to herself,lf “I did this. “Look how many died this time.

Kyle took the blame for the diplomat’s death, not Joe. When Joe finally came home, she found that her husband had left her, taking their children with him.

The finale also cleared up the mole mystery that haunted Season 3. The team’s double agent, Oleksandra, was identified as responsible for enabling the attack. Kyle followed her to a safehouse and killed her. Her body was later found on the bank of a river.

The bar shooting in D.C. brought up the possible presence of moles on the Quick Reaction Force team, but Oleksandra’s death seems to tie up that thread.

Aaliyah’s return is the thing Cruz feared most at the end of Season 1. Cruz withdrew from the Lioness program after the murder of Aaliyah’s father and fiancé, arguing their actions would only generate “another generation of terrorists angry at the U.S. to rise in Amrohi’s place.”

And that prediction has been borne out. Aaliyah isn’t just out for revenge for her father’s death—she’s taking out the entire Lioness team with Joe as bait to get Cruz back to Qatar.

The Season 3 plot has come full circle to the emotionally devastating events of Season 1, when Cruz betrayed Aaliyah’s trust and slaughtered both her fiancé Ehsan and her father on behalf of the U.S. government.

In Season 3, the CIA’s theories about Joe’s kidnapping became more and more reckless, beginning with Ukraine, despite evidence to the contrary. The body count went up. Secretary of State Edwin Mullins reminded the team, “It is still murder.”

Mullins and Byron were told by the Russian Ambassador to the U.S., “America’s biggest problem is you don’t know how many enemies you have. “Hate you, the whole world.

Mullins likened the situation to the week before 9/11, asking what lessons have been learned from years of intervention abroad. The ending implies that the answer is nothing.

The season 3 finale ended with a tribute to the late producer Rajeev Malhotra, who died on July 28, 2026, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. “This episode is dedicated to the memory of Rajeev Malhotra with deepest appreciation for your tireless commitment and steadfast support,” the tribute read. “You will be missed, my friend.”

Malhotra collaborated extensively with Taylor Sheridan across the Yellowstone universe, including Lioness, Yellowstone, 1883, 1923, and Landman.

Lioness has not been officially renewed for Season 4 yet, but with that cliffhanger ending, it seems almost inevitable. Whether Paramount+ will renew it remains to be seen.If it gets renewed,

Season 4 will probably see Aaliyah keep trying to catch Joe and bring Cruz to Qatar, while the Lioness squad deals with the consequences of the choices they made in Season 1.

Cruz reunited with Joe in an emotional episode 7, but their relationship will be tested again, with Cruz’s new love interest, Josie Carrillo, also on Aaliyah’s radar.
