4 most popular sports-related TV series today

Sports and television have long-lasting romance, mostly revolving around broadcasts that glue millions of fans to the TV sets. However, the situation is slightly different when it comes to TV shows. Viewers mostly remember great sports movies like Field of Dreams, or Any Given Sunday, while TV series are scarcer.

There are several TV series revolving around sports, but we didn’t see as much success as with the sports movies. So we picked the four most popular choices recently.

Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty

After the massive success of The Last Dance documentary about the last season of Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls, HBO created a drama series Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. The show has excellent reviews, and it follows the book about Showtime Lakers featuring ultimate NBA stars in Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, James Worthy, and legendary coach Pat Riley. However, the show got boosted by negative critique from Jerry West, a former player and executive in Lakers who is also known as the Logo because his stature is on the league logo.

The League

The show follows friends who are passionate about fantasy leagues. If you have followed North American sports, you are familiar with the fantasy league concept connected with the league pages and in virtually any sports betting site you visit in the US. Similarly to sports enthusiasts, six friends in this sitcom talk smack to each other while engaging in a fantasy league. In addition, you can see cameo roles from NFL stars in the series. This semi-improvised show had a unique character and aired 84 episodes in seven years.

Ted Lasso

This awesome TV show is derived from a short sketch. Ted Lasso is an American football coach who becomes manager in England soccer club AFC Richmond and faces relegation. The show star is Jason Sudeikis, who plays an overly friendly coach and thrives on motivation, but lacks tactical awareness and soccer knowledge. Although Ted Lasso is a funny show, it is also a great sports story and a heart-warming material.

The series got critical acclaim and is renowned for its third season. Leading actor Jason Sudeikis won Emmy alongside Hannah Waddingham and Brett Goldstein for his outstanding performance in the show.

Cobra Kai

Older generations can recall the famous Karate Kid one-legged high-kick. We tried it countless times, and the all-time classic movie saw its continuation in Cobra Kai. A few decades after the final tournament from the film, the characters are back and are reliving their infamous rivalry. The leading actors are Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, who again play the roles of Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence.

In this iteration, Cobra Kai is dealing with martial arts, but it is also a comedy series that is now running for four seasons and is renowned for another four.

Other notable sports-related TV series include Ballers, Brockmire, Friday Night Lights, Glow, All American, The English Game, Heels, Red Oaks, Survivor’s Remorse, and teen drama One Tree Hill, which was huge at the beginning of the 2000s.
