Will GTA VI Feature Aircrafts?

So Grand Theft Auto VI has been delayed and fans won’t get to play the long-awaited sequel until November 2026. But Rockstar has been teasing details for some time. Piecing together promotional material, there’s quite a lot we know already.

GTA VI will be set in Leonida – that hasn’t changed no matter how many delays. The fictional state includes Vice City, the home of the 2002 game GTA: Vice City. The second trailer for GTA VI revealed five other major locations: Ambrosia, Grassrivers, Leonida Keys, Mount Kalaga National Park, and Port Gellhorn. Like Florida, the state of inspiration, Leonida includes wetlands, mud bogs, and beaches. But what about the vehicles, and will any aircrafts feature?

Airplanes

Three planes have been seen in the promotional materials so far. A blimp is seen in one of the screenshots on the promotional GTA site. In another screenshot, you can see the Luxor, or a similar jet, travelling over the sign for “Vice City”. And the Dodo is seen in the trailers and screenshots. IGN has noted this could be an important vehicle in GTA VI as it can land in water.

Planes have been a major part of games for decades. The theme of planes and flying is even found in casino games. Aviator, for example, is a crash game where players watch a small plane climb higher and higher as a multiplier increases, deciding when to cash out before the aircraft disappears. The longer they wait, the greater the potential reward – but if the plane flies away first, the bet is lost. Aviator is popular across continents, with Aviator online South Africa players able to play on PC and mobile.

Helicopters

There have been several helicopters eagle-eyed fans have seen already. The Buzzard, a Maverick (normally used by police, but used by a news station in GTA), a police Maverick, a Sea Sparrow, and the SuperVolioto are on the list so far. Some of these may be restricted to non-playable characters, but the Sea Sparrow, for one, is likely to feature more prominently. This is another vehicle that can land in water.

Best vehicles in GTA V

Several sites have ranked the best vehicles in previous GTA games. The Gamer‘s pick for the best in GTA V was the Dewbauchee Vagner, one of the fastest cars in the game. It took some time to be able to afford it – the Vagner cost $1.5 million. Its design was inspired by the Aston Martin Valkyrie.

Aston Martin might have inspired another car on that list, the Vapid FMJ, an equally striking supercar. It was even more expensive at $1.75 million. It might have looked most like an Aston Martin Vulcan or a Ford GT.

The only helicopter to make The Gamer‘s list was the Sparrow, which first appeared in Vice City. The publication noted its similarities to the infamous Bat-Copter from the 1960s Batman TV series with Adam West.

Official confirmations

Rockstar hasn’t officially confirmed any of these vehicles will be in the game yet, but the two trailers and the website have strongly suggested they will be. In their announcement of the most recent delay, the developer didn’t give players any more info about what’s to come, unless calling Leonida a “sprawling state” counts. Rockstar apologized for “adding additional time” to the long wait.

How did fans take the delay?

It’s fair to say players were disappointed. On the r/GTA6 subreddit, there’s a release day countdown timer, and the top comment says how it was “crazy” going from 200 days to release to “377 days I might hibernate” with one simple Rockstar tweet.

Another post on the subreddit asks if the new game will outsell any of the highest selling games of all time. Classics like Red Dead Redemption II are included. GTA V is second on the list. One top-voted comment suggests it will beat V over its lifespan but won’t become the top-selling game of all time.

There are plenty of players poking fun at their own eager anticipation. One recent post uses a game screenshot of a couple hugging despondently with the caption “Trusting Rockstar is all we can do”.

Plenty of other games have been delayed for years. Alan Wake, lauded upon release, was delayed for five years. L.A. Noire, another Rockstar game, was delayed for seven years. There are plenty of others, but the most spectacular delays have been Diablo III – which first underwent development in 2001, was announced in 2008, and released in 2012 – and Duke Nukem Forever, which took 14 whole years. It outlived the console generation it was originally intended for and received lukewarm, to put it kindly, reviews upon release.

It would be a surprise if GTA VI let players down like that.
