Where Are Fred and Rose West’s Children Now? The Painful Truth of Surviving the House of Horrors

Fred and Rose West left behind a legacy of unthinkable horror. But they also left behind children—kids who grew up inside the nightmare at 25 Cromwell Street. Some of them made it out alive. Others didn’t. And the ones who did? They’ve spent their lives trying to rebuild from the wreckage.

How Many Children Did Fred and Rose West Have?

Together, Fred and Rose West had ten children. Five were their biological kids. Two came from Fred’s first marriage to Rena Costello. And three more were born from Rose’s sex work.

However, only seven of those children survived what became known as the “House of Horrors.” Two—Charmaine and Heather—were murdered. One—Barry—died as an adult, after years of struggling with addiction.

Do the Surviving West Children Stay in Touch?

No. Most of them don’t talk at all. Some live minutes apart in Gloucester but never see one another. The wounds run too deep.

Stephen West said it plainly:

  • We have nothing to do with each other… There are no large, happy family get-togethers. Too much has gone on.”

Anne-Marie’s husband added:

  • Even though some of them live near each other, they don’t speak or see each other. That only opens up old wounds.”

The Ongoing Legacy of Trauma

The West children carry the weight of their past every single day. Most changed their names. Many moved far away. A few live in hiding. They rarely speak about what happened.  But the memory of 25 Cromwell Street? It never really goes away. It symbolizes everything they survived and are still trying to heal from.
