The prime minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, has launched a scheme for the fisheries sector of India called Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana. The PM launches this on 10th September 2020. the prime minister has also found an e-Gopala application for the farmer to provide comprehensive improvement in the marketplace.
Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana is a flagship program of the government for the development of the fisheries sector of India. the budget allocation for this scheme is about Rs. 20,050 crores. This scheme has a duration of 5 years, from 2020-21 to 2024-25. This scheme applies to all the state and union territories of India. As a part of the Aatman Nirbhar package, this scheme is launched.
The investment of 20,050 crores is such a highest investment till now in the fisheries sector of India. Out of this, an investment of about Rs 12340 crores is proposed for beneficiary-oriented activities in Marine, Inland fisheries, and Aquaculture and about Rs 7710 crores investment for Fisheries Infrastructure.

The main aim of the scheme is to enhance the fish production of India. With the help of this scheme, the government also aimed to increase the export sector of India as the government is trying to improve the economy of India.

This scheme is made to remove the critical gaps in fish production and activity, quality, technology, post-harvest infrastructure and management, modernization and strengthening of the value chain, traceability, establishing a robust fisheries management framework, and fishers’ welfare.
