Who Can Win Orange Cap In IPL 2021?
Following the deadly COVID-19 outbreak in India in the month of May, the remaining matches of IPL 2021 were shifted to UAE. Currently, Delhi Capitals are leading the chart, followed by Chennai Super Kings.
With so many great batsmen and rising young talents, it is tough to find the best among them and predict who can possibly bag the Orange Cap for the outstanding batsman. According to Betway, the following players are the top contenders who could win the orange cap this IPL 2021.
Shikhar Dhawan
Shikhar Dhawan, belonging to the Delhi Capitals team, is the top-performing batsman in this season’s IPL, and it is expected that he will continue with his stellar performance in UAE as well. Till now, he has scored 380 runs in 8 innings with an average of 54.82. His strike rate is 134.27 this year, which is slightly down from last year as he is playing a defensive game while letting Prithvi Shaw make the attacks. He takes charge once Shaw’s wicket is down.
Prithvi Shaw
This right-handed Delhi Capitals opening batsman looks promising this season, even though his performance in IPL 2020 was kind of disappointing to fans. This season he has scored 308 runs at 38.50. His strike rate looks really good, at 166.48, and is at the top among all the batsmen. He is an in-and-out attacker who has been backed by the experienced Shikhar Dhawan. Statistically, his report looks really good and is one of the contenders for the orange cap.
KL Rahul
While this Royal Challengers Bangalore player continues to score high, his strike rate has been going down year after year. He has scored 331 runs this year and is just behind Shikhar Dhawan on the leaderboard. But his low strike rate of 136.21 has become a matter of discussion. His strike rate might be improved with a better batting line-up. Anyways, last year’s orange cap winner is a top contender this year too.
Faf du Plessis
One of the biggest reasons behind Chennai Super Kings’ great performance is the opening partnership between Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Faff du Plessis has been highly reliable and consistent in his performance in all the IPL seasons so far. So far, in IPL 2021, he has scored 320 in 7 innings with an average of 64.00. His strike rate is 145.45. If he steps up and brings stability to his batting order, he can become a tough contender for the orange cap.
Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant has already proven his worth, but his strike rate of 131.48 this season does not quite justify his talent. He has scored 213 runs at 35.50. He has led Delhi Capitals well in the absence of the captain, Shreyas Iyer, but he might not be given the captaincy back.
